Disaster Response

Delivering rapid, effective support to restore health, shelter, and livelihoods

Disaster Response

Disasters disrupt more than infrastructure. They fracture routines, income, and the quiet systems people rely on to live with dignity. ESAF Foundation responds with urgency and care, reaching those at the margins of relief systems. Whether the crisis is flood, pandemic or climate-driven, our work extends beyond aid to long-term rehabilitation. We rebuild homes, restore livelihoods and strengthen local capacity to ensure communities emerge more prepared than before.

What We Do

We respond to disasters with urgency and long-term vision, combining relief delivery with community-led rehabilitation and resilience.

Distribute emergency relief kits to affected communities

We provide essential food, hygiene, shelter, and medical kits tailored to the needs of flood-affected, marginalised, and high-risk households.

Rebuild homes, schools and community infrastructure

Our post-disaster interventions focus on restoring safety, dignity and access to essential services, ranging from house repairs to school renovations.

Support rural health and vaccination drives

We strengthen health systems in emergencies by deploying mobile units, training educators and running camps to expand access to care and vaccination.

Restore livelihoods and critical farmland

Our recovery work includes tools, training and support for communities to restore farmland, restart livelihoods and reduce future risk.

Partner for preparedness and long-term resilience

We collaborate with local governments, NGOs and CSR partners to co-design projects that reduce vulnerability and improve community readiness.

Our Projects

ESAF Emergency Relief & Community Interventions

Across 12 states, through ongoing relief and recovery efforts, ESAF Foundation provides food, shelter, health services and infrastructure repair in the wake of disasters. With community partnerships at the core, these interventions respond to both immediate needs and long-term rebuilding.

Partner:

SURAKSHA-21 COVID Response Project

During the pandemic, across 10 states, ESAF Foundation worked to address vaccine hesitancy and expand rural access. The project reached 3.8 lakh people and enabled over 7 lakh vaccinations through awareness drives, health camps and door-to-door outreach.

Partner:

Kerala Flood Rehabilitation (2018–2020)

In the aftermath of the 2018 floods, ESAF Foundation supported over 95,000 families with relief kits and rebuilding efforts. The programme strengthened recovery across Idukki and Thrissur districts through house reconstruction, school repairs and farmland restoration.

Partner:

Tsunami Relief & Livelihood Rehabilitation (2004–2011)

Following the 2004 tsunami, ESAF Foundation helped fisherfolk in Tamil Nadu rebuild homes and restore livelihoods. The programme supported long-term housing, food access and economic recovery through coordinated efforts with national and international partners.

Partner:

ESAF-Dyuthi Project (2020–2021)

In remote tribal settlements across Assam and Jharkhand, ESAF Foundation improved night-time safety and mobility by installing solar lamps. The initiative reached areas with little to no electricity access and created visible change in daily life.

Partner:

PRATHEEKSHA KIRAN (2006–2011)

In tsunami-affected coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, ESAF Foundation supported women and marginalised communities to rebuild livelihoods. Through long-term skill training and financial assistance, the project created pathways to recovery rooted in local strength.
